WasteX Hits Major Biochar Production Milestone in Indonesia

Updated: 7 days ago

The front view of one of WasteX's biochar facility in Indonesia

WasteX has achieved a remarkable milestone at one of its partner corn mill facilities, producing 500 kilograms of high-quality biochar in a single day. This breakthrough sets a new production record for our facilities in Indonesia.

The key to this enhanced output was our switch to using 100% pelletized corn cobs as feedstock. This specific biomass preparation significantly improved the efficiency of our carbonization process.

Why Pelletized Corn Cobs Matter

Using pelletized corn cobs as feedstock improved the carbonization process by:

  • Releasing more pyrolysis gas (syngas), which can be reused as a secondary fuel.

  • Cutting the fuel-to-feedstock ratio to just 5% (compared to the usual 10%). This means that for every 100 kg of corn cobs processed, the system now only needs 5 kg of outside fuel, compared to the usual 10 kg.

  • Lowering reliance on external fuels while boosting energy efficiency

The result: higher biochar yields with less energy input.

Scaling Our Capacity

By fully adopting pelletized feedstock, our production capacity has effectively doubled. Each facility is now projected to produce:

  • 12.5 tons of biochar per month

  • 150 tons annually

On a climate impact level, this equals an estimated 250 t-CO2e (tons of CO2 equivalent) removed from the atmosphere each year.

Where to Buy Biochar in Bulk in Indonesia

For businesses, agricultural corporations, and individuals looking to purchase high-quality biochar in bulk from WasteX, we operate several production facilities across Java. Our biochar factories are ready to meet the growing demand.

You can source biochar directly from our facilities located in:

  • Batang, Central Java

  • Grobongan, Central Java

  • Pasuruan, East Java

  • Bojonegoro, East Java (coming soon)

This milestone brings us closer to our vision of transforming agricultural waste into a valuable resource that boosts crop yields and fights climate change.
