WasteX has completed a successful commissioning tour in Africa, led by Project Engineer Chester Laroco.
The tour brought WasteX v2.3 biochar equipment to agricultural producers and project developers in Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia, offering a practical way to turn local waste into biochar.
Local Feedstock, Local Impact
Our small-scale, decentralized biochar machine can adapt to different agricultural residues. During this tour, it processed:
Uganda: Corncobs (pelletized and unpelletized), bagasse (pelletized), and wood waste
Kenya: Bagasse (unpelletized)
Zambia: Wood waste (wood shavings)
This flexibility ensures that farmers and project developers can use what’s locally available, cutting down on waste and transport costs.
Why Choose a Small-Scale, Decentralized Biochar Machine?
Large, industrialized biochar plants may work for central hubs, but they’re not always practical for every location.
WasteX offers the best option for decentralized biochar production, designed for:
Remote areas where heavy industrial equipment cannot be deployed
Pilot projects that need scalable and testable solutions
Organizations and cooperatives managing smaller volumes of feedstock
Flexible use cases, handling a wide variety of agricultural byproducts
By choosing a small-scale system, stakeholders gain independence, reduce downtime, and avoid the high costs tied to large infrastructure.
Benefits Beyond Technology
Every installation of WasteX’s biochar equipment supports:
Soil health improvement, increasing water and nutrient retention when biochar is applied to the soil
Carbon sequestration, reducing greenhouse gas emissions
Waste valorization, turning residues into a valuable product
Community empowerment, by giving local teams control over resources
Biochar in Africa: A Scalable Solution
The deployments in Uganda, Kenya, and Zambia are proof that decentralized biochar technology is a sustainable path forward. By providing accessible, high-tech small-scale machines, WasteX helps local communities contribute to climate solutions while gaining real agricultural and economic benefits.
We look forward to building more partnerships across Africa and beyond, making biochar a cornerstone of sustainable agriculture and carbon removal.
